Zambia started making handmade paper in 2017!<\/span><\/p>\n

A Japanese Washi specialist also visited the site and received training from the banana team.<\/span><\/p>\n

It was a challenge for team members for the first time, but it was a beautiful handmade banana paper.<\/span><\/p>\n

We mix the organic banana fibers with used paper gathered from local schools and offices (where used paper is usually burnt). Moreover, it is an organic paper that does not use any chemicals. The glue used to make paper uses wild grasses that grow in this area. We also succeeded in producing fiber sheets. It becomes possible to deliver raw materials that are easier to handle at overseas factories (Japan, Europe). This fiber sheet is 100% organic x 100% fair trade, which is rare in the world.<\/span><\/p>\n

When adding glue to the paper, we use a local leaf or root – completely natural<\/p><\/div>\n

Surrounded by nature and wildlife, Zambia’s banana paper mill uses only organic ingredients. The photo shows the glue that is needed for the handmade paper made locally. We use native weeds nearby.<\/span><\/p>\n
