Sustainable packaging

Because it is a product that is friendly to the environment and society, I want to be particular about packaging. With that in mind, banana paper is used as part of LUSH’s gift set for natural cosmetics and soaps. We have also been offering “banana bags” since 2018.

Towards a truly Sustainable Packaging

LUSH Japans “Soap Box” released in 2017. Banana Paper!

LUSH of natural cosmetics and soap

Born in the UK, LUSH is popular with young women for its pop and colorful soaps, bath salts, body creams, etc. LUSH products, which are colorful and gorgeous, are the leading brands in the organic cosmetics and bath products industry, as they are made from raw materials that are thorough in terms of quality such as organic, fair trade, vegetarian, and animal welfare.

LUSH Japan has adopted many banana paper products such as gift wraps and tags, shop cards, business cards, paper pens, and more.

Awareness increasing towards Sustainable packaging

A 2015 consumer survey in Sweden, the US and India asked the question, “If the product is good for the environment or society, but the wrapping is not, do you buy the product?” 20% of the respondents answered, “I don’t buy.” The result is that 1 in 5 people are also aware of packaging and packaging.

At present, the movement of consumers to choose products without packaging, such as the prohibition of shopping bags and the charge, has become more active in the world. Why not use banana paper, which creates value for the environment and society, as an important gift while at the same time stopping wasteful packaging?

Fiber, the raw material for banana paper, regenerates in a year. It is 10 to 30 times faster than ordinary wood and 1 million times faster than plastic derived from fossil fuels. Moreover, banana paper is a sustainable wrapping paper because it returns (disassembles) to the soil. Paper that comprehensively includes not only the value of the environment but also the value of society. It is a fair trade product that also supports people in developing countries.

Banana Fiber paper bags

From 2018, we developed a “banana bag” in collaboration with LUSH Japan. The paper bag is made by 99% recycled paper, and 1% fair trade banana fibers. But this “just 1% banana fiber” ends up contributing to a minimum of 2 months work for our Banana Paper Team in Zambia, because to the amount of bags produced. A very small contribution means a big life change on the ground, helping reducing extreme poverty while supporting the protection of endangered lions and elephants.
