We have introduced 30+ benefits to our banana team in Zambia. This is in addition to the salaries, based on the Fair Trade criteria of so called “Living Wages” that – as much as possible – ensure the income that can cover the basic needs in life. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The additional benefits is a mix of both recommendations, the law (compliance), and fair trade-related benefits. We introduce those benefits to all our team members (employees) of One Planet Cafe Zambia:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

They include following:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

1. Salaries above minimum wage <\/p>\n\n\n\n

2. House support (called house allowance<\/em>)<\/p>\n\n\n\n

3. Transport support for commuting to work (called transport allowance<\/em>)<\/p>\n\n\n\n

4. Free breakfast<\/p>\n\n\n\n

5. Free lunch<\/p>\n\n\n\n

6. Free fruits (banana, mango, passion fruits etc, to boost immune system)<\/p>\n\n\n\n

7. Bonus when achieving certain goals<\/p>\n\n\n\n

8. Double pay if need to work on holiday<\/p>\n\n\n\n

9. Hourly added pay from the first hour after ordinary work time.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

10. Inofficial Ambulance service (for employees & surrounding villages)<\/p>\n\n\n\n

11. Health insurance for employees (accidents)<\/p>\n\n\n\n

12. Health insurance for employees (sickness) <\/p>\n\n\n\n

13. Medical assistance for examinations<\/p>\n\n\n\n

14. Paid sick leave (employees paid even when sick and recovering) <\/p>\n\n\n\n

15. Dental assistance (toothache or precaution treatment)<\/p>\n\n\n\n

16. Sick child leave (both women and men)<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Micro Credit loan system (called Advance<\/em>) for following 3 purposes…<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

17. (Type A): Emergencies – self or family not covered by insurance.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

18. (Type B): Education – (self or family\/children) <\/p>\n\n\n\n

19. (Type C): Improvement – support to improve quality of life (e.g. repairing house, making village toilets more hygienic, etc.) <\/p>\n\n\n\n

20. Maternety Leave<\/p>\n\n\n\n

21. Food Security Package (during specially harsh periods \/ for example floods and recent years corona pandemic).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

22. Funeral support (immediate family)<\/p>\n\n\n\n

23. Funeral support (relatives)<\/p>\n\n\n\n

24. Solar panel & solar lamps support (for home)<\/p>\n\n\n\n

25. Malaria Net support (for purchasing malaria prevention mosquito nets)<\/p>\n\n\n\n

26. Education during work hours (SDGs and Fair Trade-related education occures regularly)<\/p>\n\n\n\n

27. Community water support – free to draw water at our Green Factory for nearby villages and employees. Open twice a day (AM and PM) <\/p>\n\n\n\n

28. Clean water projects for some small-scale banana famers (so called borehole drilling<\/em>) <\/p>\n\n\n\n

29. Reflective belts to employees (precaution of road accidents after sunset) <\/p>\n\n\n\n

30. Travelling support (in unforseen emergencies in support for long-distance relatives or family members)<\/p>\n\n\n\n

31. Business travel support (called per diem reimbursement<\/em>). For example when going on day-long work to nearby city of Chipata (110 km) for vehicle service and insurance that can not be done nearby)<\/p>\n\n\n\n

32. Christmas package (every end-of-year season). <\/p>\n\n\n\n

33. Gratuity – annual contract renewal support (currently 25% of employees basic salary).<\/p>\n\n\n\n
